The West Mamprusi Municipality is undertaking a vigorous and coordinated response following a severe storm that struck the area leaving extensive damage in its wake. The storm has affected numerous communities, educational institutions, and residential homes, prompting immediate action from local authorities.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Mohammed Rabiu Jabaah, assured residents that government agencies are actively engaged in relief efforts aimed at restoring normalcy. In a detailed briefing, he confirmed that the profiling of affected educational facilities has been completed, with preliminary reports already submitted to regional authorities for urgent intervention.

Walewale Senior High Technical School was identified as one of the most critical cases, having sustained significant infrastructural damage. Emergency repair operations are now underway, with the priority of resuming academic activities promptly.

These urgent projects are vital to ensure that classes can recommence without undue delay, Hon. Jabaah emphasized.

The storm’s impact extended beyond the educational sector, causing severe damage to homes across affected communities. Reports indicate that many structures were ripped apart by the relentless rains, leaving residents displaced and vulnerable. Tragically, the disaster claimed one life in Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale, highlighting the storm’s deadly severity. The MCE underscored that response efforts are ongoing,

We visited all impacted areas alongside regional officials to assess the damage firsthand. Our immediate goal is to minimize disruptions and expedite recovery, he stated.

Communities such as Tunguri, Kperiga, Kukua, and other parts of Walewale experienced intense rainfall that tore off roofs and rendered many residents homeless. Local residents, including 23-year-old Isaaku Jaliu, expressed their urgent need for assistance.

Our homes and farms have been destroyed. We are appealing to the government and aid organizations for support to rebuild and recover, Jaliu appealed.

Similarly, Mr. Abubakar Abdulai voiced his distress, stating,

Since the storm ripped off our roofs, we have nowhere to sleep. We lack the funds to repair our homes and are calling on authorities to help us rebuild.

Yidana Iddrisu Bugzua, the assemblyman for Tinguri electoral area, emphasized the importance of immediate intervention.

This is the peak of the rainy season, and our farmers have lost vital time and resources. We need urgent support to recover and rebuild, he urged.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the MCE called on all stakeholders including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders to collaborate in the recovery process.

Our response remains active and ongoing; we are doing everything possible to support the affected communities and ensure that no one is left behind, he affirmed.

As recovery efforts continue, residents remain hopeful that swift, coordinated action will help them overcome this natural calamity. Authorities have pledged to sustain assessment and support activities, emphasizing that resilience and community solidarity are essential to bouncing back from this disaster.
