The Chief Executive Officer of Maurya Education Limited (MEL), Girish Gurbani, has called on parents, educators and the wider public to embrace the Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS), describing it as a tool for developing children’s cognitive and emotional abilities.

He made the appeal at a seminar in Tamale to launch the M-LAP report, a new assessment designed to help identify individuals’ innate abilities and potential.
This report will help individuals understand their strengths and better navigate the psychosocial aspects of life, Mr Gurbani said.
The event, held at the Tamale Metropolitan Conference Hall, brought together educators, school leaders, policymakers, parents and development partners from Tamale and Bolgatanga.
Mr Gurbani said UCMAS goes beyond mathematics, positioning it as a broader educational platform aimed at equipping children with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
UCMAS is not just a math programme; it is a visionary educational platform that builds the intellectual and emotional toolkit required for tomorrow’s problem solvers, he said.
He added that MEL’s STEMROBO programmes integrate science and technology into classroom teaching, supporting a more holistic approach to child development.
Also speaking at the event, Executive Director of YIDA Consult Ltd, Steven Nassam, welcomed the level of engagement from stakeholders and called for increased collaboration with educational institutions across the region.
Our aim is to make these platforms accessible to more children across Northern Ghana, he said, adding that the programmes are designed to equip learners with practical, 21st-century STEM skills.

The relaunch of the UCMAS and STEMROBO programmes in Tamale forms part of efforts to strengthen science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Northern Ghana.
