FIFA has assembled a high-profile technical study group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA world cup, with former black stars head coach Otto Addo named among a distinguished lineup of global football figures.

The group, operating under the guidance of FIFA’s chief of global football development, Arsène Wenger, will be responsible for analyzing all 104 matches at the tournament, which will be hosted across North America. Their work is expected to shape the understanding of modern football while influencing its future development.

Addo joins an elite panel that includes Tobin Heath (USA), Jürgen Klinsmann (Germany), Jayne Ludlow (Wales), Michael O’Neill (Northern Ireland), Gilberto Silva (Brazil), Jon Dahl Tomasson (Denmark), Paulo Wanchope (Costa Rica), Aron Winter (Netherlands), and Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina).

The team will be led by FIFA senior football expert Pascal Zuberbühler and Tom Gardner, head of football performance insights (FPI). They will be supported by a technical workforce comprising analysts, data engineers, data scientists, and performance specialists working both on-site in Miami and Dallas and remotely from Manchester.

At the heart of their work is FIFA’s enhanced football intelligence service, developed in collaboration with Wenger and the FPI unit. This system will deliver advanced performance data and modern metrics offering fans, broadcasters, and teams unprecedented insights into matches through augmented reality visuals and traditional graphics.

According to Wenger, the TSG plays a crucial role in identifying emerging trends in football, helping prepare future generations, and enhancing the sport’s overall appeal. He emphasized the importance of balancing technical expertise with data-driven insights, noting that the group will provide real-time analysis throughout the tournament.

Each match will be monitored using six different camera angles alongside thousands of live data points, allowing the panel to interpret tactical developments both from dedicated stadium positions and a central performance hub in Miami. The TSG will also be responsible for selecting winners of the tournament’s individual awards.

In a first for the world cup, fans will be able to access real-time technical insights from the group via FIFA’s Training Centre platform, including its social media channels and YouTube. The platform, already a key resource for coaches and players worldwide, will serve as the digital home of the TSG throughout the competition.
