Minority Leader urges Motivation Boost for Black Stars to Unleash Ghana’s Football Firepower at World Cup 2026

With just 30 days until the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in a blaze of global glory, Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has sounded the rallying cry for Ghana’s Black Stars.

Speaking candidly on TV3 and monitored by Radio Tamale, the Effutu MP emphasized that Ghana’s football heritage from legends like Abedi Pele to modern stars like Mohammed Kudus holds immense promise, but success hinges on getting the motivation right.

They need to be properly motivated. Ghana has great potential when it comes to football, Afenyo-Markin declared.

Afenyo-Markin’s intervention taps into a familiar Ghanaian football narrative. The Black Stars’ last World Cup appearance in 2022 ended in heartbreak, with a dramatic group-stage exit after beating South Korea but falling short against Portugal and Uruguay.

The MP’s call echoes growing pressure on the sports ministry and sponsors to deliver on incentive packages, echoing past controversies over unpaid allowances that marred AFCON campaigns.

With the World Cup expanding to 48 teams, experts see a real shot at the knockout stages if motivation aligns with strategy.

As the countdown ticks 30 days to glory or regret the lawmakers words serve as a potent reminder that Ghana’s football dreams are within reach, but only if leaders and players unite to fuel the Black Stars’ engine.
