The Member of Parliament for the Sagnarigu Constituency, Attah Issah, says Ghana’s commitment to the Policy Coordination Instrument framework will not prevent the government from creating jobs for unemployed young people.
He said the administration of President John Dramani Mahama remains focused on expanding employment opportunities and improving livelihoods, even as it maintains fiscal discipline under the agreement.
According to the MP, the government’s cooperation with the International Monetary Fund does not stop it from introducing policies and programmes aimed at reducing unemployment. He stressed that the state can still pursue job-creating interventions while staying within its fiscal obligations.
Hon. Attah Issah pointed to the Adwumawura Programme as one of the flagship initiatives designed to support youth entrepreneurship. He said the programme provides start-up capital of up to GH¢20,000 to help beneficiaries establish and grow businesses.
The parliamentary finance committee member also highlighted other efforts, including the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, initiatives under the National Youth Authority and ongoing public sector recruitment exercises.
He acknowledged that progress has been made, but said more sustained and coordinated action is needed to create more jobs and improve economic conditions for young people across the country.
