Nalerigu High Court Upholds Suspension of Bunkpurugu Polling Station Elections Amid Legal Dispute

116

The Nalerigu High Court has upheld the suspension of the NPP Bunkurugu Polling Station elections amidst ongoing legal proceedings. Presided over by Justice Samuel Bright Acquah, the court issued an order to halt all election-related activities in the constituency until the legal matter is resolved.

During the session on June 1, 2026, counsel for the plaintiffs, Solomon B. Damtai Esq., informed the court that the case had been amended to include an additional 62 plaintiffs, bringing the total number to 79. He noted that while these individuals had been invited by constituency officials for consultations, they were informed that only the original 17 plaintiffs would be engaged.

Of these, eight had been cleared, six disqualified, and three were still undergoing vetting. Mr. Damtai emphasized that the dispute can only be amicably settled with the involvement of the party’s Council of Elders or an independent body.

Representing the defendant, Samson Yahaya Esq., requested an adjournment to allow the party to address concerns raised by the additional plaintiffs and indicated that the Regional Council of Elders would assist in mediating the issue.

The court granted the adjournment and mandated that no elections or related activities should take place in the constituency until the next hearing scheduled for July 2, 2026. Consequently, the polling station elections in Bunkpurugu have been postponed due to the legal dispute involving disqualified applicants and the constituency election committee.
