Labour Minister Pledges International Job Opportunities and Skills Training as North East Youth Summit Inspires Change

The National Youth Authority, in collaboration with the North East Regional Directorate, successfully hosted the North East Youth Summit, bringing together hundreds of young people from across the region.

The event aimed to bridge the gap between regional leadership and the youth, empowering the next generation to actively participate in shaping their future. Held under the theme “From Potential to Power: Changing the North East Narrative,” the summit provided a vibrant platform for dialogue with regional and national leaders.

It featured inspiring speeches, motivational sessions, and discussions focused on unlocking the potential of young people and fostering sustainable development in the region.

Prominent dignitaries at the summit included the Metropolitan Chief Executive for East Mamprusi Municipality, the North East Regional Minister, Hon. Ibrahim Tia, and the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo.

During his address, Dr. Pelpuo announced significant initiatives aimed at tackling youth unemployment. He disclosed that his ministry is actively creating pathways for young Ghanaians to secure employment opportunities abroad. Additionally, efforts are underway to attract organizations into Ghana to provide skills training and job placement services.

Young people here, I am opening up opportunities for you to travel outside the country and work. I am bringing organizations into this country to equip you with knowledge and skills, and to create job opportunities, Dr. Pelpuo stated.

He expressed confidence that these initiatives have already commenced and assured that they would be extended to all regions across Ghana.

Hon. Ibrahim Tia, the North East Regional Minister, emphasized the importance of diversifying employment avenues beyond white-collar jobs. He urged the youth to embrace agriculture and agribusiness as viable and sustainable pathways to economic growth and job creation in the region.

Agriculture remains one of the strongest pillars for job creation here. Our youth must embrace it, Hon. Tia urged.

The Regional Director of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Robert Kampi Laari, who hosted the summit, expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and participants for their contributions to the event’s success.

He affirmed the Authority’s confidence that the summit’s objectives had been achieved and that it would have a positive impact on the lives of the youth in attendance.The summit is part of the ongoing efforts by the National Youth Authority to connect youth with leadership, build capacity, and transform the development narrative of the North East Region.

It underscores the commitment to empowering young people and fostering sustainable socio-economic growth in the region.
