Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Côte d’Ivoire to secure the future of the cocoa industry and improve the welfare of cocoa farmers across the two countries.

President Mahama made the remarks during the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana High-Level Summit on the Future of the Cocoa Economy held in Abidjan, where he also engaged in bilateral discussions with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara on deepening cooperation within the cocoa sector.

The summit brought together representatives of the world’s two largest cocoa-producing nations to deliberate on coordinated strategies aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of the cocoa industry while enhancing economic opportunities for farmers.

Discussions at the summit focused on strengthening measures to protect the cocoa sector from emerging challenges, increasing value addition within the cocoa value chain, and ensuring that farmers receive a greater share of the benefits generated from cocoa production.

The meeting further built on ongoing engagements under the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI), a joint platform established to harmonise policies and advance the shared interests of cocoa-producing communities in both countries.

President Mahama and President Ouattara underscored the importance of continued collaboration between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, noting that stronger cooperation would help safeguard the industry against market fluctuations and promote sustainable growth.

The summit concluded with a renewed commitment by both countries to pursue policies that enhance value creation, strengthen the resilience of the cocoa economy, and improve the livelihoods of millions of cocoa farmers who depend on the sector for their income.

Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire together account for a significant share of global cocoa production, making their partnership crucial to the future development of the international cocoa market.
