National Chief Imam Congratulates Ghanaian Pilgrims on Successful 2026 Hajj

84

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has congratulated Ghanaian pilgrims who completed the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia and prayed for Allah to accept their worship and grant them safe return home.

In a message to the pilgrims, Sheikh Sharubutu praised the Ghana Hajj Board, the Government of Ghana and other stakeholders for what he described as a successful pilgrimage operation. He also commended the officials, service providers and support staff whose efforts helped ensure the smooth coordination and welfare of the Ghanaian delegation in the Holy Land.

The revered Islamic leader has also used recent public appearances to call for peace and unity within the Muslim community and beyond. He condemned the confusion and altercations that broke out at the Parliament Forecourt over disagreements among Ahlussunnah factions on the choice of Eid prayer venues, urging restraint, discipline and mutual respect.

Sheikh Sharubutu has long positioned himself as a voice for religious harmony and national cohesion, particularly during periods of political tension. He has repeatedly appealed to religious and political leaders to help preserve Ghana’s reputation for peace and tolerance.

During this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, the Chief Imam hosted several prominent political figures, including former President John Dramani Mahama. The visit drew attention after Mr. Mahama was seen sanitizing a microphone before handing it to the cleric, a gesture many interpreted as one of respect and concern for his health.

The Chief Imam’s continued advocacy for peace, unity and religious harmony remains widely admired across Ghana and beyond.
