President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled a pledge made at the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCares, by donating six months of his basic salary to the initiative.
Government appointees also contributed one month of their basic salaries, bringing the total donation to GHS 6,102,737.80. The amount was formally presented to the Fund on Monday by Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.

Receiving the donation, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, thanked the government for the support and praised the gesture as a demonstration of commitment to helping Ghanaians who need specialist medical care.
Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said the government remained committed to supporting citizens facing serious health challenges and called on individuals, institutions and corporate bodies to contribute to the sustainability of the Fund.

The donation is part of efforts to strengthen the financing of healthcare support for people with complex medical conditions.
