Tamale, May 6, 2026 — A woman has allegedly set fire to her sister’s house in Tamale following a family dispute, sparking panic on Yong Street in the Kpanvo area.
An eyewitness told reporters he saw flames pouring from the windows, quickly cut the electricity supply and alerted an elderly woman believed to be inside. A young woman at the scene reportedly claimed responsibility for the blaze, telling him “not to worry”.

The elderly woman — thought to be the mother of both the suspect and the house owner — collapsed after confirming the fire, witnesses said.
The house was occupied by the suspect, her mother and a brother at the time. The owner arrived later but was kept back from the burning building for safety reasons.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service are battling the blaze, which has sent tensions soaring in the neighbourhood. Efforts continue to reach other affected family members for comment.
